My Number card procedure to extend electronic certificate expiry date

Post by Gareth »

When I got my My Number card, I was still under “Engineer, Specialist in Humanities and International Services” so the expiry date of the My Number card was the same as the expiry date of my visa, in January 2024. When I then got Permanent Residency, the expiry date of the My Number card was extended to my birthday ten years after the card was first issued, in 2031.

However, the expiry date of the “electronic certificate” 電子証明書 remained January 2024. That couldn’t be extended when I extended the expiry date of the card itself when I got PR. I received a letter a few days ago telling me to go to the city office and apply to extend the expiry date of the electronic certificate.

The application to extend the expiry date of the electronic certificate can be done up to three months before the original expiry date. All I needed to take was the letter I received and my My Number card. You also need all four of the passwords so I took the paper I have with those on it.

At the My Number counter, I had to fill out a simple one page form and input my four passwords on the screen. It was all done and dusted in just a couple of minutes. I received two pieces of paper, one saying the current electronic certificate has been revoked and another one with details of the new expiry date, which is now the same as the expiry date of the card itself.

So if you have to extend the electronic certificate expiry date on your My Number card, you’ll get a letter three months beforehand and it’s an easy process that takes only a few minutes.

Yeah. If you have forgotten them or lost the piece of paper you wrote them down on when you first got the card at the city office, you can reset them at the counter.

I’ve used the password several times when looking at the Myna Portal. It’s quite useful. You can see your tax returns, health record, tax history etc etc.

This happened to me too and confused me to no end. The electronic signature doesn't get updated when they update your card's expiration date. It was surprisingly quick and easy as long as you can use a weekday to go to city hall to update.

Oh, I've used my card to print stuff at the combini and do stuff online, so I definitely remember one of the passwords. No idea why they would need four though (seems like a good recipe to get people to write them down and keep them on a piece of paper tucked into the card sleeve) ;)

Three of them can be the same so in effect you only need to remember two passwords!

I only know two my number card passwords (the card pin and the digital certificate). What's the other two? :?

did a bit of search and yeah what I still don't remember being asked for the other two  as mentioned above it's probably the same pin and I just didn't realize I entered the same pin for three different things at the time
