I noticed today while reading the small print on the SBI site that while they will refund the 0.25 yen commission for currency conversions between JYE and USD, they will still be charging a small spread between the BID and ASK prices of each currency (0.02% in the case of the US dollar.
** CORRECTION ** I think that maybe the BID ASK spread at SBI might in fact be 0.04% and not 0.02% because the actual word they use is "上乗せレート" of 0.02%, so I guess it's a surcharge of 0.02% over the TTM which must mean that the actual difference between BID and ASK must be 0.02% x 2=0.04%. Does anyone here have actual experience of exchanging USD to YEN or YEN to USD since the new zero commission system was introduced?
Has anyone on this board converted yen in to dollars or dollars in to yen at SBI? Did you get charged this 0.02% BID-ASK spread on your conversion? Admittedly it's a razor thin margin and I guess whoever's actually doing the conversion chores on behalf of SBI Securities needs to make some money or they wouldn't be doing it. It is interesting though.

ご注文時の上乗せレートについての注意点
日本円売り外貨買いの場合は、ご注文をいただきましてから約定となるまでの間、日本円の出金可能額（出金可能額は、買付余力とは異なる場合があります。）から概算の見積金額を拘束いたします。概算の見積金額は、「リアルタイム為替取引」の場合、直近のレートに一定レート（100.02%）を乗じ、為替スプレッドを加えた値にて計算いたします。「定時為替取引」の場合、直近レートに一定のレート（上乗せレート）及び為替スプレッドを加えた値にて計算いたします。
なお、外貨売り日本円買いの場合は、外貨の出金可能額をご注文の外貨金額分拘束いたします。
