Does you NISA start when you open the account or upon your first purchase?
I registered an account for my kids in September but have held off buying anything. If I wait until next year will I have wasted a year and only be left with 4 years?

Hi Akatani

The NISA account doesn't last for five years. Each year of the NISA allowance (each year is treated separately) lasts for five years.

So anything you buy this year is tax free for 2017-2021, anything next year is tax-free from 2018-2022, etc.

Actually, I suspect there won't be a crash as everyone is expecting it and will just buy as soon as prices dip.
