I believe the big things matter. Security, freedom.
But it’s the little things that make life pleasant. Eating really good noodles. Reading a book to a kid when they ask you to (even if it’s the 74th time). Looking at the clouds. Relaxing into a hot bath. Taking a walk somewhere green.
Sadly a lot of the time we only realize how lucky we were when we lose something. So before that happens, stop, take a breath, and appreciate the moment.
Because that is all life is: a succession of moments. Don’t miss them while you worry about the past or the future.

We had a great time talking with Simran about cool and unusual Japanese trains, being an actuary in Japan, personal finance, the difference between Osaka and Tokyo, and more 🙂

This week’s books
Started reading Morgan Housel’s new book, Same as Ever. Very readable, even if I had seen a lot of it on the blog. Recommend.

I like the $5 million is Nothing article, I also like knowing what enough is.
Yeah, I’m finding the whole ‘how much is enough’ thing is more nuanced than I imagined!
The only good thing that Kiyosaki has done is the Cashflow game, especially for teaching kids real personal finance.
Turns out though that he stole the idea. Was successfully surd for doing so, but declared corporate bankruptcy to avoid paying and started a new company right after.
#2 An important read, thank you for sharing. A reminder about the normalization of antisemitism and othering, and what can happen when mob mentality is accepted. You can’t appease fanaticism. Those who don’t know history, ….
Do you think Morgan Housel’s latest is worth reading? Heard a podcast (Tim Ferris) with Morgan and it was pretty interesting but not sure if the book is worth it? Started the Murderbot series and enjoyed the first one. Thanks for the reading list each week.
It’s good so far. Very readable. But a lot of it was published on the blog first, so if you read his blog regularly it’s going to be a lot of deja vu.
Apparently Apple TV is making a Murderbot TV show. Between that and Foundation I am tempted to get a subscription!
