doesn’t appear to be an edit function to add to my op, so I’ll post here:

Is there a way to do a limit order with this on NISA?

You can buy ETFs in the growth frame of the Nisa. Simply go to the ETF. From the ETfs page during the buy process, you can select the framework. Along with other purchase options.

Use the superscreener to see what ETFs are allowed.

Is that ETF I originally linked the only one which meets all the criteria I outlined?

There's 57 ETFs that satisfy your conditions that can be bought in the Tokyo Stock Exchange

Not sure if this link works but this is my search:

Iiuc, only 1 of those satisfies my conditions.

I’d also like to understand exactly why the difference in values for each. eMAXIS Slim 米国株式(S&P500), MAXIS 米国株式(S&P500)[2558] , VOO, and the current s&p500 rates all differ, even when you account for the time difference.
As I outline at the top, I simply want to do a trade on the s&p500 in nisa, and buy/sell at the price that’s on the screen.

eMaxis Slim are mutual funds, not ETFs.

If you want to trade in real-time, you have to choose ETFs. Generally in USD.
Even if you buy the product in JPY, they are then buying assets in USD, so you cannot get away from the FX.

If you think the price is low now, just buy as much as you safely can.
Buying real-time, when the markets are open, means that the price also moves real-time.
When I have bought US stocks before I have always added on a small margin on top of the market price to cover the FX, handling fees etc. If you bid the exact price on the screen you will not be able to buy, in my experience.
Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.

Yeah, you’ve got the right idea. The time lag on mutual fund orders can definitely mess with your plans in a volatile market, I’ve had cases where the price moved a lot by the time it settled. For short-term plays or “buying the dip,” I stick with ETFs like the one you mentioned, since you can trade them in real time and avoid surprise pricing.

Are there any other hassles associated with buy/sell this ETF, as opposed to the hands off reinvesting mutual fund I’m doing in nisa? No extra paperwork or tax organization etc?

You're more likely to miss-time the market and lose money.

I’m also curious why it’s not advantageous to use limit and stop loss orders on your NISA. For example, if you set the prices to exceed what you would gain if you left it, even including nisa limit resets. With these limits, you would get the best of both scenarios- cashing in on price fluctuations, or letting it sit and compound interest if that’s greater than the fluctuation.
