Thanks, just wanted to make sure.zeroshiki wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 6:09 amYou're correct. Tokutei means you don't need to do it even if you file separately. It will only be relevant if you choose an Ippan account.goodandbadjapan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 4:50 am
The bit in brackets - does this just mean if you do file your own taxes you should be including gains made in tokutei accounts? I thought as it was withheld at source we don't need to do anything with these. Is that not right?

Re: invested in eMAXIS Slim 全世界株式(オール・カントリー)
Im thinking of refunding the taxable part and buying the non taxed one since filing my own taxes seems annoying and I don&t know if I will be employed in 20 years...could someone please explain how to do that?

For just that 3,000yen? If so, don't bother. You don't have to file any taxes if it is in tokutei. 20% tax will be taken out of any profit if you sell.
Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.

It's probably looking better than a 3,000 loss now after a better week for stocks and the dollar sell-off eased up this week too.
To do.it though, you would
1) sell your position in your taxable account (it's not a refund, you are buying and selling here)
2) wait for the money to show up in your account a few days later
3) buy the same thing again, taking care to select the NISA growth account rather than the taxable account next time
(You could do this in smaller chunks of money too, and get some practice using the system as well)
Even with a taxable account, you don't need to file taxes if you have it set to withhold profit at the source, but I think your idea of using NISA and learning the ropes that way is best in your case.
(I prefer to keep my money as long as possible and so do not use the withholding option and file a tax return, which is admittedly no simpler a task than trying to understand all the convoluted aspects of nisas and tokuteis and idecos)

Oh I see the 3,000 loss was actually a 3,000 yen purchase in tokutei. Anyway.
